Good Mother Gallery was thrilled to present Bidet Duvet, a successful two-person exhibition showcasing the works of New York-based artists Henry Swanson and Sam Branden. The show took place in Good Mother’s Los Angeles gallery location from April 5th to April 25th of 2025. For both artists, this marked their first exhibition in Los Angeles, and the April 5th opening reception buzzed with excitement as LA locals were introduced to their distinct yet conceptually aligned practices. Swanson, a Dallas native, brings a humorous and often poignant figurative style to his oil paintings, drawing from a memory bank filled with personal oddities and cultural echoes. Meanwhile, Branden, originally from Cleveland, constructs abstract, semi-sculptural works from scavenged materials like thrifted clothes and upholstery fabric—creating tactile collages that reflect the residue of urban life.
Despite their differing mediums, both artists share a raw, unfiltered approach to art-making that is predicated on a love of creation. Their shared backgrounds in middle-America and their current grounding in New York’s dynamic street culture collided in Bidet Duvet, a show that embraced nostalgia, irreverence, and a deliberate sense of discomfort. The title itself is a cheeky nod—much like the exhibition’s energy, which felt refreshingly unpolished and bold. Good Mother Gallery was proud to welcome Swanson and Branden to the West Coast and introduce their work to an enthusiastic new audience.
