Soft Serve: Group Exhibition: LOS ANGELES

15 November 2025 - 3 January 2026

Good Mother Gallery Los Angeles is pleased to present Soft Serve, a group exhibition featuring the works of Haniko Zahra, Alyss Estay, Braden Skelton, Chris Johst, Quinn Girard, Alexis Trice  & Dillan Conniff.

Soft Serve is an exhibition about moral elasticity, the quiet distortions that occur when conviction meets temptation. As in the early sixteenth century, when faith and fantasy intertwined, our own era moves through similar fog. Unseen systems and shifting desires blur what is real and what is willed. The works here linger in that ambiguity, between devotion and indulgence, structure and decay, allowing a slow drift of fantasy sludge to soften the moral edge. What unfolds is less a warning than a mirror, a study of how easily virtue slips into theater. The title, Soft Serve, speaks to this condition, a form shaped by pressure, spiraled into momentary order, holding just long enough before it begins to melt.

The exhibition draws on the spirit of the early 1500s and the curiosity of the pre-Renaissance humanists, thinkers who questioned the divine order yet still trusted the imagination. It was a time of visionary art and quiet poisoning, when people saw angels in their bread and hallucinations in their yeast. Some of those visions, historians suggest, came not from revelation but from ergot, a fungus that made entire villages see heaven and hell in their kitchens. Today, the symptoms feel familiar. We live in a new haze of processed foods, digital noise, and invisible networks. We are still unsure whether what moves us is spiritual, artificial, or both.

The artists in Soft Serve explore this shared uncertainty. Their works move between sincerity and parody, belief and performance. They echo the moral fog of the sixteenth century while reflecting the blurred ethics of our present. Each piece hovers in a soft zone where meaning is flexible and order begins to melt. Ultimately, Soft Serve considers how culture, like conscience, is always close to slipping. What is most easily dispensed is also most easily remade.
