Madeline Brice: What If We Don't Get Older: LOS ANGELES

12 July - 9 August 2025

Good Mother Gallery is pleased to present What if We Don’t Get Older, a solo exhibition by Madeline Brice. Based in Kansas City, Missouri, Brice is known for her psychologically charged paintings that delve into the chaotic beauty of human neurosis. Her latest body of work explores themes of mortality, identity, suppressed desires, and the false narratives we construct to survive. In a series of vivid, dreamlike compositions, Brice invites viewers into fractured landscapes where domestic symbols collide with existential dread.

Brice's creative process is deeply intertwined with the neurotic cycles of creativity, where the urge to make becomes both salvation and self-destruction. She pieces together fragments of memory, humor, fear, and longing into lush visual worlds that feel at once deeply personal and curiously detached. Her compositions are imbued with mirrored symbolism and chained permanence, reflecting a mind trying to outpace its own spirals and chasing the fleeting relief that only the act of creation can bring.

Yet, beneath the weighty themes, Brice maintains a sense of playfulness and subjectivity. She enjoys the act of painting, piecing together elements of her psyche into visual compositions that are both fun and meaningful to her. As she creates, the source material becomes increasingly distant, allowing her to weave entirely new narratives by the end of each piece. This exhibition offers a glimpse into Brice's constructed worlds, inviting viewers to explore the complexities of the human psyche through her unique lens.
