Good Mother Gallery is pleased to a present a new solo exhibition by Ryan Belli, opening Saturday, March 1st from 5-7pm at our Los Angeles location.
Los Angeles-based artist Ryan Belli is a sculptor and designer known for his playful approach to functional objects. His work challenges traditional furniture design by incorporating whimsical, interactive elements that engage the viewer beyond mere utility.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Belli studied at Vassar College before continuing his education at ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena. He gained extensive hands-on experience during a seven-year apprenticeship with the Haas Brothers, where he mastered working with wood, resin, and metal, shaping these materials into unique, organic forms.
Belli’s work blurs the line between art and function. His pieces—whether chairs, tables, or sculptural objects—are designed to be both practical and thought-provoking. His signature style often features exaggerated shapes, unexpected proportions, and a sense of movement, making each piece feel dynamic and alive.
His design philosophy moves away from the sterile minimalism commonly seen in contemporary furniture, instead favoring forms that evoke curiosity and interaction. His work is heavily influenced by the Memphis Design movement, along with elements of surrealism and modernist craft traditions.
Belli’s creations have garnered attention for their ability to transform everyday objects into engaging art pieces. His work resonates with collectors, designers, and those looking for furniture that goes beyond function to become a conversation starter. His approach combines craftsmanship, humor, and a strong sense of materiality, making each piece a distinct expression of creativity.
As he continues to develop new designs, Belli remains committed to crafting pieces that encourage play and interaction. Whether in a gallery setting or a private collection, his work invites users to engage, explore, and experience design in a fresh and unexpected way.
