Adele Renault’s solo exhibition, Things I Can't Unsee, currently on view at Good Mother Gallery in Los Angeles from May 3-31, 2025, is a striking exploration of the overlooked natural elements that shape urban life.

Renault, a Belgian-born, LA-based artist, originally trained at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels. Her paintings range in scale from works on canvas to monumental public murals that leave an indelible imprint on the urban landscape. Driven by her love for exploration, Renault draws inspiration from man-made and natural environments, and she has become known for her photorealistic depictions of everyday subjects and her cultivation of a distinct visual language rooted in the peripheral ecologies of Los Angeles.

With Things I Can’t Unsee, Renault presents a focused group of oil paintings— as well as ceramics, for the first time in her career— that elevate the incidental into the monumental—a severed cactus growing between chainlinks, moss seeping from a broken sewer line, a graffitied eucalyptus towering over a highway overpass. Each subject is rendered with cinematic depth and surgical precision. And each piece forces the viewer to confront what is overlooked, and what becomes unforgettable once observed. Renault does not aestheticize Los Angeles; she records it with clarity.

To celebrate Renault’s first solo exhibition in more than a year, Good Mother was pleased to collaborate with the restaurant Alta Adams to host a pre-opening dinner on May 1st, 2025 in the gallery’s annex location. Friends, families, and patrons perused select works from the upcoming show, conversed with the artist, and enjoyed comfort food and natural wines.

Building off the anticipation of the pre-opening dinner, Things I Can't Unsee has continued to be met with great enthusiasm, reaffirming Renault’s ability to transform the ordinary into subjects of artistic significance, and asserting the role Renault plays in LA’s art ecosystem herself.

Select pieces from Things I Can't Unsee are available for purchase. Please direct inquiries to info@goodmothergallery.com for more information.
