Jen Hitchings

Biography

Jen Hitchings (b. 1988 New Jersey), is a Los Angeles based artist.

Hitchings work portrays surreal, natural environments characterized by monochromatic color schemes and a graphic quality. These imagined spaces draw inspiration from personal experiences and a profound yearning for the forests of the American Northeast. Influences encompass diverse sources, including the rural landscapes of Japan, the Hudson River School painters, science fiction film posters, spiritualist archetypes, and contemporary surrealist art.

While exploring the delicate relationship between humanity and nature has always been central to their artistic inquiry, recent years have seen a deep dive into introspective examinations of the psyche, interpersonal dynamics, eroticism, and cosmic energies. Each painting emerges from a blend of geographical influences, spanning experiences from the east to the west coasts, and emotional landscapes encountered along the way.

Hitchings artworks feature elements such as uncanny symmetry, unnatural patterns, and partially realistic reflections, all aimed at shedding light on the inherent beauty and enigmatic qualities of nature. Through this interplay, the boundaries of truth and illusion are blurred, prompting viewers to question their perceptions and embark on a journey of introspection.
