Biography

Esteban Samayoa (born 1995 in Sacramento, CA) is an Oakland-based artist whose work is deeply rooted in his upbringing and personal experiences. Throughout his artistic journey, imagery from his formative years in Sacramento serves as a prominent theme, providing a rich backdrop for his creative exploration.

Dogs hold a significant place in Samayoa's artistic expression, serving as a constant motif in his work. His earliest drawings often featured characters reminiscent of Slick Wolf from the old Tex Avery cartoons, a nod to the influence of his father and grandfather, who both had a penchant for classic Cadillacs. Through these depictions, Samayoa explores themes of power, identity, and societal perceptions, particularly as he relates to breeds like the Doberman and Rottweiler, which carry connotations of danger. Samayoa's art challenges viewers to look beyond surface judgments and delve into the complexities of human nature and perception.

He seeks to challenge perceptions, provoke thought, and inspire connection, forging a narrative that transcends boundaries and celebrates the diversity of the human spirit.
